Description

I've used Mike Norris Damascus for the blade and bolsters for this piece.

One of the challenges with designing and making knives that fold is managing the blade-to-handle size ratio.  Since the handle must be large enough to fully conceal the blade when closed, it's easy to end up with a knife that feels like a giant handle with a little blade attached.

Using blade-steel to construct the bolsters can be a good way to balance a folder out compositionally.
The bolsters must then be heat-treated and etched with ferric chloride in the same manner as the blade.

Designing the blade to be more broad than the handle is a useful way to boost the weight of the blade and bring the balancing point of the knife forward.

Fun stuff.
