Description

Kestrel Dagger Point, designed for piercing.
Named for the small Falcons that are known for their ability to face the wind and hover while hunting.

The top edge of the blade is fully sharpened to where the angle changes, then it wears a false edge from there on back. She's a large knife, measuring nearly a foot when opened. The locking mechanism is reinforced when the handle is gripped tightly to help prevent accidental closure during use. The up-swept tail of the spine on the butt started as an aesthetic flourish but is also useful for striking, breaking glass, etc. The abalone shell used for the scale and inlay was pulled from the Northern California coastline by the Pigeon Point Lighthouse (between Santa Cruz and San Francisco) back in the 80's when it was legal to dive for it there.
The Three holes in the blade represent Bravery, Wisdom, and Compassion & serve to provide traction when opening.

The 13th Knife of my apprenticeship to KnifeMaker, Larry Detloff of Santa Cruz, California.

Blade length: 4.75"
Overall length (open): 11.5"

Damascus Steel folded by Mike Norris.

Blade: Stainless Vortex Damascus
Scale: Mother of Pearl
Liners: Titanium

What exactly are the pieces in the handle? The colorful abstract pieces? What are they made of?
